North Star Dragway
General Rules and Policies

This page contains rules and information that should help to explain specific rules of drag racing. As a general rule, North Star Dragway follows the NHRA Rulebook, with very few exceptions. If you have a specific Question or comment about the rules, please contact us. (940) 482-9998.

General Rules

  1. No burnouts allowed in Pits or Staging lanes.
  2. Alcohol consumption by participating drivers is strictly prohibited.
  3. No alcohol is allowed in staging lanes or starting line area.
  4. No glass bottles allowed on track premises.
  5. The speed limit in pit area and return road is 10 m.p.h.
  6. No skateboards or roller blades are allowed in pit area.
  7. 3 or 4 wheelers and bicycles are to be used for support only. NO JOY RIDING
  8. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to operate any motorized vehicle. Violators face expulsion from the event along with their race car and or crew members and will not receive any refund of any sort.

2009 Summit ET Rules & Guidelines

  1. Enrollment for the 2009 Summit ET Points Series is done in the timing tower. All forms and payments must be completed prior to any points being awarded.
  2. All drivers must have an NHRA competition number or a North Star Dragway permanent number to earn points. All drivers are encouraged to purchase an NHRA competition number from the Division 4 office.
  3. All numbers and dial-ins must be clearly visible on the driver's side of the car. If you change cars during the season, your points number must be displayed on the new vehicle to earn points.
  4. Points will be awarded at all 15 of the Summit ET events scheduled.
  5. No driver may compete twice in the same eliminator.
  6. Points will be awarded to drivers, not to cars, and cannot be transferred to other drivers or to other classes.
  7. The 2009 points season will begin March 7th, 2009, and will end October 31 st, 2009. Summit ET Finals points to run for the North Star Dragway Bracket Finals team will end September 12, 2009.
  8. The Top 50 Overall points holders in Super Pro, No Electronics, and Street will be eligible to run for North Star Dragway at the Summit ET Finals. Drivers may earn up to two places on the Bracket Finals team, but may not run the same car more than once at the Bracket Finals.
  9. Super Pro and No Electronics Race of Champions representatives for the Summit ET Finals will be determined by the class points leaders following the Summit ET Race held on September 12, 2009.
  10. The points champion in Super Pro, No Electronics, Street, and all Quick Eliminators will receive a 2010 North Star Dragway Gold Card, as well as a Champion's jacket. The class runners-up will receive a jacket. Gold Cards are non-transferable.
  11. The Top 32 points holders in Super Pro and No Electronics, following the October 31st, 2009 Summit ET Race, will be eligible to race in our End of Year event scheduled for November 7th 2009. There is no cost to enter these classes, and the payouts are included in this packet.
  12. 2009 North Star Dragway Points will be awarded as follows in all classes:
    • 10 Points for each round
    • 2 points for winning eliminator
    • 1 point for runner up in eliminator
  13. The cost to earn points for Super Pro, No Electronics, and Street is $25. There is no charge to earn points in any Quick Eliminator.
  14. Following 1st round of each North Star Dragway Summit ET Series event, we will run our WindStar Aviation 2nd Chance Eliminator. This class is open to all 1 st round runners-up in Super Pro and No Electronics. Every effort will be made to keep electronics cars from running no electronics cars until it is necessary. The payout for this class is as follows, and there is no Charge to enter:


    • 2nd Chance Elim.
    • Winner .......... $350
    • R/Up .................... $100
    • Semis ....... Car& Driver

  15. Any racer running in Super Pro or No Electronics and also competing in a Quick Eliminator will be permitted a maximum of two time trials. All Quick racers must make a minimum of one qualifying pass.
  16. AII eliminators will be given a maximum of two time trials or qualifying runs. Every effort will be made to provide late arrivals a minimum of one time trial.
  17. No delay boxes, throttle stops, or two steps are permitted in No Electronics classes. Transbrakes are permitted for reverse purposes only and are prohibited from being used for any other purpose. No car may be equipped with more than one line lock.
  18. Beginning March 28th, Summit ET Series Race #2, all delay boxes must be removed from every car competing in a No Electronics class. NO EXCEPTIONS! Simply disconnecting the delay box is not permitted.
  19. Time Trials and Qualifying Sessions will be run by eliminator in this order:
    • Super Pro
    • Quick Open Wheel
    • Quick Doorslammer
    • No Electronics
    • Quick No Electronics
    Please note, this will not be the run order for eliminations.


  20. Pairings for eliminations will be determined using the card system in all classes. In Super Pro, No Electronics, and Street, the first card pulled will race in the right lane, and the second card will run the left lane. In all Quick classes, lane choice will go to the higher qualified car.
  21. Bye-runs will be chosen using the card system in Super Pro, No Electronics, and Street. In all Quick classes, in the event of a bye-run, it will be given to the highest qualified car in competition. No racer shall receive more than one bye- run in each class unless all competitors have already received a bye-run. Competition bye-runs do not count.
  22. Courtesy staging is mandatory in all classes. If a driver stages before both cars have pre-staged, he/she will be backed up and given another opportunity. If he/she fails to courtesy stage on the 2nd attempt, they are disqualified.
  23. No deep staging is allowed.
  24. No driver may change vehicles after first round of competition.
  25. No driver in Quick Eliminator is permitted to race in a vehicle other than the one he/she qualified with. No driver changes are permitted after qualifying. AU drivers must dial their car no more than one-tenth slower than their qualifying time.
  26. Making contact with the guardrail or crossing the center stripe is an automatic disqualification.
  27. All dial-ins must clearly visible on the driver's side of the vehicle before crossing the commitment line. Any racer caught changing a dial-in past this point will be disqualified.
  28. It is the racer's responsibility to check his or her dial-in prior to staging. Once both cars have staged, no race will be re-run due to an incorrect dial-in.
  29. Reaction and intermediate times are provided as a courtesy to the racer and no race will be re-run over disputed intermediate times.
  30. All cars must have at least one working taillight.
  31. In the event a racer cannot start their car after being paired, the racer will have 60 seconds to fire their car, once the pair in front of him/her has crossed the finish line. After 60 seconds, the competition will be given a bye-run.
  32. All NHRA safety and technical rules are in effect at all times. Any driver or car found to be in violation of these rules may be disqualified at any point during an event.
  33. The North Star Dragway Race Director has final discretion on all rules, procedures, and safety guidelines.

North Star Dragway Points Program ENTRY FORMS MUST BE FILLED OUT before points will be given. Fee $25. Forms may be obtained at front gate.

All cars must have belts.

Motorcycle Participant Rules

  1. All riders must wear full-face Snell or SFI approved helmet.
  2. All riders must wear leather gloves.
  3. All riders must wear a leather jacket.
  4. All riders must wear over the ankle leather boots or shoes.
  5. All riders running 120 mph or faster must wear full leather.
  6. Stationary burn-outs are to be made in water-box area only.
  7. NO stunts or full wheel stands on race track.
  8. All bikes must have working tail-light.
  9. Scooters pit support only !
