North Star Dragway
General Rules and Policies

This page contains rules and information that should help to explain specific rules of drag racing. As a general rule, North Star Dragway follows the NHRA Rulebook, with very few exceptions. If you have a specific Question or comment about the rules, please contact us. (940) 482-9998.

General Rules

  1. No burnouts allowed in Pits or Staging lanes.
  2. Alcohol consumtion by participating drivers is strictly prohibited.
  3. No alcohol is allowed in staging lanes or starting line area.
  4. No glass bottles allowed on track premises.
  5. The speed limit in pit area and return road is 10 m.p.h.
  6. No skateboards or roller blades are allowed in pit area.
  7. 3 or 4 wheelers and bicycles are to be used for support only. NO JOY RIDING
  8. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to operate any moterized vehicle. Violators face expulsion from the event along with their race car and or crew members and will not receive any refund of any sort.

Points Series Rules

  1. Enrollment for 2008 point series is done at the Timing Tower. All drivers must have a NHRA competition number or a North Star Dragway permanent number to earn points.
  2. Drivers in all classes are advised to purchase a NHRA competition number. You must have a NHRA comp. number and membership to race at the Div. 4 E.T. Finals.
  3. The points are earned according to the number displayed on the vehicle. Should a driver change vehicles during the season, his or her permanent number must be on the vehicle.
  4. All numbers and dial-ins are to be displayed on the driver's side of the vehicle. The numbers have to be legible for the tower crew.
  5. Points will be given in all eliminators unless there is a special event. Drivers will be notified if points are not given at a special event.
  6. A driver may not drive more than 1 car in the same eliminator.
  7. Points will be awarded to the driver and may not be transferred, even if the driver changes eliminator
  8. The 2008 points season will begin March 8, 2008 and end October 25, 2008. Summit ET Finals points end October 4, 2008.
  9. The top 50 drivers in points of the 3 eliminators; Super Pro, No Electronics, and Street will be eligible to attend the E.T. Finals.
  10. The points champion in Super Pro, N⁄E, Street, and All Quick Eliminator will receive a Gold Card. The Gold Card entitles the racer to a free Car⁄Driver entry to all North Star Dragway sponsored events. The Gold Card is non transferable.
  11. Super Pro and No Electronics Race of Champions, for the E.T. Finals, will be determined by the total combined season's points leader in Super Pro and No Electronics as of 9⁄27⁄07.
  12. The overall Top 50 point holder, exlluding Quick Eliminator, will be paid $1 per point as of October 28th.Check will be awarded at our 2008 Racer Banquet.

2008 NSD Points will be earned as follows in Super Pro, No Electronics, Quick Eliminator, Street, and Jr. Dragsters.

North Star Dragway Points Program ENTRY FORMS MUST BE FILLED OUT before points will be given. Fee $25. Forms may be obtained at front gate.

2008 Race Procedures

  1. Any racer running Super Pro or No Electronics and also running a Quick Eliminator will be given a maximum of 2 time trials or qualifying runs. All racers must have at least 1 qualifying run.  


  2. All eliminators will be given a maximum of two(2) time trial sessions or quilifying runs. Late arrivals are only guaranteed one(1) time trial before eliminations begin, if time permits.
  3. Time trials will be run by eliminator out of their designated lanes.
  4. Pairing for eliminations will be determined using the card system, first card number goes to the right lane.
  5. Bye runs will be drawn at random using card system. No racer shall receive two bye runs unless all other remaining racers have had a bye run. Competition singles do not count as a bye run.
  6. If a car stages before both drivers have prestaged will be backed up and re-staged. If a driver fails to courtesy stage on his/her second attempt, they will be disqualified.
  7. No deep staging is allowed, except for Jr. dragsters.
  8. Jr. Dragster crew members will fire the car up when the two(2) cars before them have pre-staged. A maximun of 3 "push-backs" and 1 engine restart will be allowed prior to staging. Once the dragster has lit the pre-stage bulb, no crew member will be allowed to touch the vehicle, other than to turn on a data switch.
  9. No driver may change vehicles after 1st roun of competition.
  10. Hard braking at finish line that causes driver to loose control of vehicle during any race will result in Disqualification.
  11. A driver may change vehicles before eliminations have begun, as long as the vehicle is not entered in the same eliminator.
  12. All dial-in must be visible on driver's side of vehicle and cannot be changed once car has past the dial in line. Failing to abide by this rule will result in DQ.
  13. Reaction times and intermendiate times are given as a courtesy to the driver and no races will be re-run over disputed times.
  14. It is the sole responsibility of the driver to check his or her dial-in before staging. Once both cars have staged, it is a race. No exceptions.
  15. All cars must have working tail lights.
  16. Rainouts: In the case of rainouts, rain checks will be issued. No cash refunds.
  17. Drivers must wear pants and shirts with long or short sleeves (No tank tops or muscle shirts.)
  18. Any car running faster than 6.39 must have a competition liscense.
  19. Any car running 7.35 or quicker, the driver must wear a fire jacket.
  20. All cars must pass a tech inspection before running and may be rechecked at anytime.
  21. Cars running faster than 8.59 must wear an NHRA Approved helmet.
  22. All cars must have a SFI Approved harness running faster than 7.35.
    All cars must have belts.


Motorcycle Participant Rules

  1. All riders must wear full-face Snell or SFI approved helmet.
  2. All riders must wear leather gloves.
  3. All riders must wear a leather jacket.
  4. All riders must wear over the ankle leather boots or shoes.
  5. All riders running 120 mph or faster must wear full leather.
  6. Stationary burn-outs are to be made in water-box area only.
  7. NO stunts or full wheel stands on race track.
  8. All bikes must have working tail-light.
  9. Scooters pit support only !
